Three community-based associations in Enga province support the implementation of locally-driven development projects. These associations, formed by members of their respective communities, include the Lyumbain Socio-economic Community Development Foundation Inc, the Lagaip Poverty Relievers Association, and the Enga Hope Foundation. The projects aimed to strengthen grassroots initiatives that promote sustainable livelihoods and community empowerment.
The video presentation is of the overall project report on agricultural activities supported through the Rural PNG Value-Adding Small Grants. The projects were carried out to improve sustainable farming practices and enhance food production within the community. The focus was on practical, low-cost farming methods that benefit local farmers, especially women and smallholder groups.
Local farmers were empowered with knowledge and skills in modern farming techniques. Additionally, the project focused on encouraging participation of women in agriculture, supporting income generation, and improving household nutrition.
Through this initiative, farmers were able to adopt simple but effective practices for better crop production.
The project achieved several positive outcomes. Farmers gained practical knowledge and improved their skills in sustainable farming methods. Soil fertility improved through composting, leading to healthier crops.
Vegetable production increased, and some of the crops produced, including broccoli from the project site at Sopas School of Nursing, have already been harvested and sold to Innovative University of Enga. This demonstrates the project’s potential to generate income and support local markets.

Women’s participation in agriculture was also strengthened, enhancing their role in community development. In conclusion, the project successfully demonstrated the importance of sustainable agricultural practices. With continued support, these activities can be expanded to benefit more communities in the future.
“I’m very proud that we are farming this land here. The area is starting to grow, so I’m looking forward to engaging the community. Throughout Enga, I’ve got 3,000 plus mothers, fathers, all disabled, widows, open-aged. I am thankful for the grants” – Enga Hope Foundation
