In a significant boost for the local agricultural sector, partners from Niugini Flowers & Gardens (NFG), the Eastern Highlands Provincial Department of Agriculture & Livestock (PDAL), and Mama Bank Ltd teamed up recently to conduct presentations for the participants of the 2nd Batch Floriculture Farmer Training.
This collaborative initiative establishes a comprehensive support ecosystem for emerging provincial floriculture farmers. Through this strategic partnership, Niugini Flowers & Gardens has teamed up with PDAL to deliver the technical floriculture project, while Mama Bank Ltd is providing essential banking services and crucial financial literacy training.
To further ensure the farmers’ success, PDAL is funding the farmer equity component of the project. A total of K6,400.00 will be paid directly to Mama Bank by PDAL on behalf of 20 selected farmers. This equity payment unlocks a K1,000.00 start-up capital loan for each farmer, providing the necessary funds for initial flower stock and equipment.
This arrangement will be formalized through an upcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to be signed between all partners. While PDAL provides the project funding for the province, the operational funds will be managed by Niugini Flowers & Gardens, streamlining the delivery of resources and expertise to the farmers.
Niugini Flowers & Gardens is a member entity of the Advancing PNG Women Leaders Network Inc.
