5 NATIONAL GOALS AND DIRECTIVE PRINCIPLES

50 Years of Independence – Honoring Our National Goals

As Papua New Guinea marks 50 years of Independence, we reflect on the foundations our country stands on—the 5 National Goals and Directive Principles of our National Constitution.

These goals are more than just words; they are the vision our forefathers had for a united, self-reliant, and sustainable Papua New Guinea.

At Piku Biodiversity Network, we have been engaging and informing young people about these guiding principles—reminding them that PNG is the land of a thousand tribes, where strength lies in diversity.

Our National Goals recognize this richness and encourage us to embrace our many ways of doing and being, not only for PNG but as our contribution to the world.

These goals outline our responsibilities:
– To self, in relation to others
– To community
– To country
– To nature and future generations
– To ensuring our PNG ways make a better world

As we celebrate this milestone, let’s continue to uphold these principles and honor the vision that built our nation.

The future of PNG is in our hands!

– Yolarnie Amepou, Director of The Piku Biodiversity Network Inc
