Hela Retreat and Restoration Resource Centre is a community base group organization establishedin mid 1990s in the interest of few women and young youths to do HIV AIDS Awareness programs inHela with the financial supports from PJV (Pogera Joint Venture) voluntarily initiated by ProfessorHolly Wardlow who has been doing her thesis studies on HIV AIDS program component (Gender &Sex) in PNG Institute of Medical Research Unit.The group has been voluntarily providing AIDS patient home base caring supports, counselingservices for PLWHIV, HIV trainings, assisted orphans& widows with food, school fees and doingHIV/AIDS awareness activities in Hela province.Early 2003, the group affiliated to one of the National organization called Community Base HealthCare ( CBHC), implementing Primary health programs wider in Hela province. The CBHC organization partner with some national & international organization, private sectors, Gov’t divisions & faith baseorganizations to provide services to individuals, women & Children, women groups, communities&youths group whose involvement in Small businesses, VHAs, healthy community settings programs,HIV/Aids training, awareness, nutritional training and assisted volunteers working in variouslocations in Hela. In 2006 due to financial constraints, the program laid off for indefinite periods until2009 completely closed down the programs.In 2010, the members proposed to form one umbrella Organization namely; Hela Retreat andRestoration Resource Centre to manage, Coordinate &to facilitate any means of services into thecommunities of Hela through partnership collaboration, stakeholder engagements, establishingproject and programs to achieve common goals and objectives. The organization’s preliminarypreparation started early 2014 but never register to be a registered entity due to tribal fighting andcontinuous social issues arising in various communities.
